Philadelphia Quarry,  Tennessee

The 3-acre spring-fed quarry in east Tennessee has a graveled shallow entry with training platforms at 17 feet (5 m), 25 feet (8 m), and 75 feet (23 m), and a buoyancy course. Events are staged at the site, the most recent being an underwater pumpkin-carving contest last October. Divers must sign a release form, which is available at www.philadelphiaquarry.com. No electricity or air fills are available.

Depths to: 70 feet (21 m).

Visibility:
25 feet (7.5 m).

Water temperature: Reaches 80 degrees Fahrenheit (27 degrees Celsius) in August. A hood and gloves are recommended for divers descending to the deepest parts of the quarry.

Aquatic life: Variety of freshwater fish.

Fees: $10 admission for divers; $3 for nondivers.

On-site amenities: picnic tables by the water, men's and women's changing rooms, and bathrooms that are open from March to November. Camping is available by request.

Getting there: From Interstate 75, take Exit 68 between Knoxville and Chattanooga . Drive west to
Harris Road about 1 mile. Turn left. Continue about a half-mile to a driveway on the left marked with a small dive flag.
