Pleasant Creek State Recreation Area, Iowa


Pleasant Creek lies about 15 miles (24 km) northwest of Cedar Rapids and 40 miles (64 km) southeast of the Waterloo-Cedar Falls metropolitan area. Palo is 5 miles south.

Labeled one of those "get wet" lakes,visibility is poor but a dive platform does exist about 20 feet (6 m) below the surface near the dam. A dive flag is required. Besides attracting divers, the lake is also popular with swimmers and fishermen.

Aquatic life: Largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, channel catfish and mussel lunge.

On-site amenities: Campground features 69 campsites, 43 electrical hook-ups and two modern shower and restroom facilities. Four camper cabins are available seasonally and 10 miles (16 km) of trails are great for hiking or bicycling. Four boat launching sites also exist.

Getting there: From Interstate 380 in Cedar Rapids, take Blairs Ferry Road (exit) west about 10 miles (16 km) to Palo, Iowa. At four-way stop in Palo you will take a right. Follow the signs to the park.
